Gender-based violence remains the most fundamental and widespread violation of human rights for women, with 1 out of 3 women[1] in Europe having experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives (since the age of 15). Male violence against women is still a major cause of death among women in today’s world. Gender violence is everywhere, at home and at work or in school, on the streets and online, regardless of social background and education.
Gender-based violence has to be prevented! Trade union organisations affiliated to industriAll European Trade Union commit to eliminating violence against women. Today, we are witnessing a growing demand in many European Union member states to reconsider issues of gender equality. On top of the progress we have already made, industriAll European Trade Union and its Equal Opportunities working group will keep up the fight against all institutional inequalities as well as those taking place in companies and workplaces so that gender equality becomes a reality for the future generations. Pioneering agreements have already been signed in several countries including Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and the Netherlands.
From 25 November until 10 December (Human Rights Day) get involved to raise awareness and bring about change. Participate in the online action by sharing this news for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and by using the Twitter hashtags launched by the ETUC #25N, and the UN #orangetheworld.
