"We must implement the principle that no one should be left behind in this transition"

Triangle met Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish acitivist who launched the first ever school strike against climate change, and Anuna de Wever, who is among the leaders of the Youth for Climate movement in Belgium, before addressing the European Economic and Social Committee.

"I think that we need young people that drive the world forward and that's what they are doing on a very important topic for all of us," Triangle said of the activists.

He then set out IndustriAll Europe's vision of a just transition to the green economy that's needed to save the planet:

"Europe indeed faces enormous transitions. We need to implement the Paris Agreement. We need to go for the energy transition. We need to go for the zero carbon economy and this will effect sectors, companies and regions.

"These ambitious plans need to be accompanied with clear social policies. We need to upskill and train workers but that will not be enough. We certainly will need to invest more in these policies but it will not be enough. We will also need to invest and create a future for regions which will be highly affected by these transitions.

"We must implement the principle that no one should be left behind in this transition. This requires timely anticipation and dialogue, social dialogue at company level, but dialogue also with the civil society."
