RMT UK in harsh industrial conflict to defend labour rights and safety with Southern GTR Railways

RMT, our affiliate UK organisation, is involved in a long social dispute about the collective dismissal of about 500 conductors with train operator Southern GTR Railways Limited. Indeed, the company intends to introduce driver-only operations on some of the most overcrowded and potentially dangerous services in Britain. The conductors will be re-employed as ‘On-Board Supervisors’ (mainly to collect fares on board), with new lower terms and conditions.
Southern GTR Railways Ltd putting profits before public safety
RMT does not accept the loss of income for the conductors and has huge safety concerns, as the drivers will be made responsible for opening and closing train doors. RMT said "the company was taking a 'lethal gamble' in putting profits before public safety".
