Refugee crisis is not an excuse for undermining working conditions and social standards

The refugee crisis is not an excuse for undermining working conditions and social standards and for sidestepping existing collective agreements. IndustriAll Europe will fight to ensure that refugees and migrants have the same working conditions as other workers!”, declared Luc Triangle, industriAll Europe General Secretary.

Today, in Rome, the ETUC held a conference entitled ‘Trade unions for inclusion of refugees’ to discuss refugees’ integration in host societies and to organise their smooth transition into the labour market. The EU-Turkey Agreement on a Joint Action Plan on Refugees was strongly criticised, as “it lacks any sort of human sympathy and it is against EU and Member States’ obligations”. The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights has to be upheld and respected. This crisis requires joint efforts from all Member States in the interest of European citizens and refugees alike.

Finally, at the root of the refugee crisis we call on European governments to find a political solution to put an end to the Middle East conflicts. Read industriAll Europe’s Motion on the Refugee Crisis (EN, FR, DE).
